There's major news from hotel mega-chain Marriott Bonvoy.

Marriott has launched an intriguing status match offer with Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, allowing Platinum Elite, Titanium Elite and Ambassador Elite members to unlock instant KrisFlyer Elite Silver status and a path to KrisFlyer Elite Gold, as flagged by One Mile at a Time.

Meanwhile, Singapore Airlines PPS Club, Solitaire PPS Club and KrisFlyer Elite Gold members can unlock instant Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status and a path to Platinum Elite status.

So, is this a good partnership promotion? Here's what you need to know about the Marriott Bonvoy and Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer status offer.

Match Marriott status to KrisFlyer status

Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Elite Gold status will grant you access to most Singapore Airlines lounges. SUMMER HULL/THE POINTS GUY

If you have Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite, Titanium Elite or Ambassador Elite status, you can instantly receive KrisFlyer Elite Silver status. You can request a status match here. Some of the top perks of KrisFlyer Elite Silver status include:

  • Select standard seats in economy when flying Singapore Airlines
  • Automatically assigned seat at booking when flying Scoot
  • Star Alliance Silver status

Once the status match is successfully completed, it remains valid for 12 months.

If you're a Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite member, you can request a status challenge to KrisFlyer Elite Silver. You must complete two paid flights (in any fare class other than the G fare) on Singapore Airlines. These flights must be credited to the KrisFlyer program to qualify. Once you earn Elite Silver status, it will remain valid for 12 months.

We're more interested in achieving KrisFlyer Elite Gold status, which is open to members who have requested a status match and completed four paid flights (in any fare class other than the G fare) on Singapore Airlines. These flights must be credited to the KrisFlyer program to qualify.

Once you earn Elite Gold status, it will remain valid for 12 months. Some of the main benefits of KrisFlyer Elite Gold status include:

  • Select forward zone or standard seats in economy when flying Singapore Airlines
  • Automatically assigned seat at booking when flying Scoot
  • Extra baggage allowance
  • Priority boarding
  • Star Alliance Gold status
  • Lounge access when flying Singapore Airlines, Virgin Australia, Virgin Atlantic, Vistara, Star Alliance airlines and Star Alliance connecting partner airlines

If you're flying United Airlines domestically with your KrisFlyer Elite Gold frequent flyer number attached to your boarding pass, you can access the United Club.

It's important to note that this status upgrade offer is a one-time promotion. Therefore, to maintain either elite tier status, you would need to fulfill the usual qualification requirements, which for Elite Gold status is 50,000 elite miles in 12 consecutive months.

As a reminder, cardholders of the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card are entitled to Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status and, therefore, can participate in this Singapore Airlines status offer.

Singapore Airlines elite members can also unlock Marriott Bonvoy status.

If you hold PPS Club, Solitaire PPS Club or KrisFlyer Elite Gold status, you can instantly receive Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status without any stay requirements. Your Gold Elite status remains valid until February 2025.

The more exciting option for mid and upper-tier KrisFlyer members is to qualify for Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status, which is open to members who have requested a status match. You'll need to stay 10 eligible nights within six months to upgrade your status to Platinum Elite. Some of the main perks of Platinum Elite status include:

  • Late checkout at 4 p.m. (as available at some locations)
  • Room upgrades to select suites at some brands
  • Lounge access at some brands
  • Premium internet access
  • A welcome gift of points, breakfast or an amenity at some brands

Bottom line

Marriott Bonvoy and Singapore Airlines have joined forces to introduce a reciprocal status offer. As part of this promotion, mid and upper-tier Marriott Bonvoy members can receive limited benefits (KrisFlyer Elite Silver) without needing any flight activity. However, the real appeal lies in the opportunity to earn KrisFlyer Elite Gold status by taking four eligible paid flights with Singapore Airlines within six months. What makes this even more enticing is that your Singapore Airlines status can grant you access to the United Club, even on domestic United flights.

Similarly, mid and upper-tier Singapore Airlines members can enjoy finite perks (Marriott Gold Elite) without staying at Marriott properties. However, the real beauty for some customers is the chance to earn Marriott Platinum Elite status by completing 10 eligible nights within six months.

We will keep you updated if any future developments or enhancements to the Marriott-Singapore Airlines status match partnership exist.
